Populism and the Radicalization of Democracy
In this conference the author sets out the following question: Is Populism a threat or an asset for democracy? The answer to this question is much more complicated than what left or right wing populism can uphold. For trying to answer it, he first analyzes the political and economic causes that have made the drift from liberal democracies to right wing populism possible. He then presents some characteristics of the left wing populism imposed in Latin America looking to radicalize democracy. And finally, he presents some reflections on the type of democracy needed in our countries.
