Marcin Rychter on filosofi, esseisti ja muun muassa D. H. Lawrencen, Jonathan Learin, Graham Harmanin, Ray Brassierin, W. K. C. Guthrien ja Simon Armitagen kääntäjä. Hän on myös filosofian lehtori Varsovan yliopistossa. Rychter on kiinnostunut kulttuurin, nykymusiikin ja teknologian filosofiasta, mannermaisen filosofian uusista trendeistä ja nykykirjallisuudesta.
Marcin Rychter (Warsaw, Poland) – philosopher, essayist and translator of works by authors such as D. H. Lawrence, Jonathan Lear, Graham Harman, Ray Brassier, W. K. C. Guthrie, Simon Armitage, and many others. His main interests are philosophy of culture, philosophy of contemporary music, philosophy of technology, new trends in continental philosophy and contemporary literature. Received his PhD for the dissertation entitled 20th and 21st Century Avant-garde Music as a Syndrome of a Cultural Revolution, which is soon to be published. Lectures at University of Warsaw’s Department of Philosophy, works as an editor for „Kronos” quarterly.
Estetiikan tuolla puolen: minkälaista filosofiaa nykymusiikki vaatii?
1900-luvun alussa läntisen maailman musiikkikulttuuri koki ennennäkemättömän muutoksen. Koko klassisen kaanonin kyseenalaistivat musique concrèten luojat, varhainen elektroninen musiikki ja muut avantgardistit. Voidaankin väittää, että läntisen musiikkikulttuurin ontologinen rakenne on muuttunut. Klassisen kaanonin ja sen jyrkän musiikkia-/ei-musiikkia-rajavedon puuttuessa, jokainen säveltäjä joutuu kohtaamaan yleisen filosofisen kysymyksen: mitä on musiikki? Tilanne vaatii uudenlaisen filosofisen kehyksen, joka korvaa perinteisen ”esteettisen” kehyksen ja tulkitsee nimenomaan musiikkia. Mitä meidän tulisi ajatella musiikista, jossa kuultava osa on ajoittain vähemmän merkittävä kuin sen ideologinen, konseptuaalinen ja teoreettinen osa?
Beyond aesthetics: what kind of philosophy does contemporary music demand?
At the begining of the 20th century, the musical culture in the West underwent an unprecedented change. The whole classical canon was put in question by the creators of musique concrète, early electronic music and other avant-gardists. It can be said that the very ontological structure of Western musical culture has altered. In absence of the classical canon with its strict rules separating music from non-music, each composer is now forced to give an answer to the the general, philosophical question: „What is music?”. That situation calls for a new philosophical framework for interpreting music instead of a traditional „aesthetic” one. How should we think about music in which the audible factor becomes sometimes less important than the ideological, conceptual and theoretical one?
