Hans Ruin (s. 1961) on filosofian professori Tukholman Södertörnin yliopistossa. Hän on Nordic Society for Phenomenology -seuran puheenjohtaja, ruotsinkielisen Nietzschen teoskokoelman yksi kustannustoimittajista ja myös yksi Söderntörn Philosophical Studiesin kustannustoimittajista. Hänen uusimmat kirjansa ovat Frihet, ändlighet, historicitet – essäer om Heideggers filosofi (2013) ja kolmiosainen Historiens Hemvist (2016, kustannustoimittaja).

Att tala med de döda
Hur kan de levande tala med de döda? Länge var denna längtan föremål för esoteriska praktiker och föreställningar. Nu kan vi se hur det inte bara handlar om vidskepelse, utan att det är en strävan som är djupt förbunden med det kulturella medvetandet och minnet. Kanske är det vi tänker på som “kultur” i själva verket i grunden präglat av denna längtan och dess teknologier, varigenom människan skapat sätt att tala från graven med de efterkommande, men också att lyssna till de som inte längre är kvar. Anförandet tar sin utgångspunkt i en postumt fragment av den tjeckiske filosofen Jan Patocka, om Livet efter detta, och visar hur vi idag står inför uppgiften att utveckla en fenomenologi över varat-med-de-döda.
Speaking With The Dead
How can the living communicate with the dead? For ages the desire to establish such a communication was the preoccupation of esoteric practices and beliefs. But now we are beginning to see more clearly how this desire is not just an example of superstition, but in profound ways connected to fundamental cultural practices. This is the case of writing, but also imagery and recording technologies of different kinds. Perhaps what we call “culture” was actually always to a large extent the offspring of this desire, to bridge the gap between the living and the dead. The presentation takes its point of departure in a little know text by the phenomenological philosopher Jan Patocka, on the problem of the afterlife, and develops a way of looking at different human practices as in fact instances of such a broader phenomenon of being-with-the-dead.
